TURKISH
These ketubbot borrow from the Sephardic tradition and feature designs based on Turkish Iznik pottery from the 15th-17th centuries, Moroccan and Islamic architectural motifs, one with motifs from ketubbot in Salonika, and other design motifs from the Middle East. The texts can be calligraphed in the shape of the hamsa, an ancient Middle Eastern amulet symbolizing the Hand of God and good luck with the Tree of Life in between. Two of the ketubahs feature a poem by Rumi calligraphed in Farsi and English and the latest translates a Hebrew quotation into Ukrainian, the groom’s native language, using the Leonard Cohen song, Dance Me to the End of Love as their text.
